To Separate One Target from Another

Take a multi-ply string (such as embroidery floss, twine or yarn) and measure the length of the target's (the person who wishes to be separated from someone else) arm from elbow to the end of their ring finger*. Separate the strands of the thread from one another and then feed one part of the thread through the head of a needled. Alternatively, for large or difficult strands, feed the two sections representing the two people you are separating through two two separate fingerholes of sewing scissors. Slowly pull the thread through the needle/scissors, twisting the feeding end of the thread gently so it doesn’t tangle and allowing the needle/scissors to separate the strands as you repeat:

As thread is parted, strand from strand,
Thus part their ties and free their hands.
[Name] from [Name], as part from sum,
By pass of needle/shears, they come unspun.

Dispose of or use the strands as you see fit, but in separate places to keep them apart.

*If you are doing work on someone else's behalf but are unable to measure them with the string, another method of measurement is to write their name three times on paper in cursive and to lay the string out to spell their name, using the length of their name as the measurement.
