To Create a ‘Spirit Eye’ Amulet for Clear Spirit-Sight, Cutting Through Deception, & Obtaining Wisdom

This working is intended to enchant any object (hagstone, pendant, charm bag, etc.) into a Spirit Eye Amulet for aid in clarity, discernment, and seeking truth. You may use any item that feels fitting to your purposes, and the amulet can be worn for aid in divination or spirit work, making complicated decisions, or seeking answers about a situation.

This working uses the symbolism of Ōþin’s sacrifice of his eye for wisdom. If you do not resonate with this imagery, you can change this charm to fit whatever myth, folklore or symbolism you prefer.

Gather:

• the item you wish to turn into an amulet

• a bowl of water (natural spring water, blessed water, or any you prefer as long as it is safe to put on your eyes)

• a candle

• a pin or thorn

Light the candle and hold the item up in the light of its flame. If the item is a hagstone or other item with a hole, bring it to your eye and peer at the flame through it. Dip your fingers into the water and anoint your eyes, then anoint the item. Touch your Nameless Finger (the ring finger of your left hand) with the tip of the thorn or pin. (It is not necessary to draw blood or break the skin. This is a symbolic act of sacrifice.) Use your Nameless Finger to tap the item three times, focusing on awakening its spirit.

Cover your left eye with your left hand and hold the item to your heart with your right hand. Say:

As Ōþin gave flesh, I give the sign.
As Ōþin gave sight, so I give seeking.

As Ōþin gave blood for the sake of knowing,
I give breath for the sake of seeing.

One eye closed, one eye opened,
let what is hidden not remain so.

I call and command you, creature of clarity.
No longer blind, be thou an eye to see.

I conjure and create you, creature of truth.
No longer still, be thou a blade to cut through deception.

See what walks unseen.
See what speaks unspoken.

See what is, and not what pretends to be.
This I bind, this I name, this I make so.

This amulet can be kept on an altar or stored with other tools for use during divination and spirit work. Or it can be worn all the time for daily clarity and protection from deception.
