A Charm to Call on a Familiar or Guardian Spirit for Protection

This charm can be used alone as a spoken charm, written onto parchment for use as a protective amulet, or worked into a larger, personal ritual for calling on the aid of one’s Familiars or Guardian Spirits. If you prefer, you can replace the addresses of “Spirit” with your Familiar/Guardian’s name.

Come, Spirit, to my side,
Beloved sentinel, watcher of unseen hands;
Come from hedge and hollow, from briar and barrow,
And set thy might against all ill will.

Stand at my right hand in the waking hour,
Stand at my left hand in the dark of sleep;
Circle me thrice and mark the boundary,
That no harm may cross, nor shadow creep.

By word and breath I call thee near,
By blood and bond I bind thee here;
Be keen of ear and sharp of sight,
A flame in dusk, a blade in night.

Let no curse find root in my dwelling,
Let no malice take hold in my name;
Turn back the whisper, scatter the sending,
Return it back to the where it came.

Knight of the threshold, keeper of ways,
Guard each door and guard each seam;
Where I walk, go thou before me,
Where I rest, there keep thy dream.

If ill thing comes, then rise and answer,
If ill word’s cast, then break its thread;
Drive it far to field and fallow,
Leave it lost and aimless, unfed.

As I ask, so stand and ward me,
As I speak, so hold and keep;
Till I loose thee, stay beside me,
Waking guard and watching sleep.
